Repair, service, rebuild and tune other people's vehicles. A mechanic firm is the only place in the county that can service a car properly. Oil changes, rebuilt engines, fixing a tank full of the wrong fuel, resprays and performance tuning are all yours. The Pay'n'Spray only does basic bodywork and health, so these jobs are what keeps a mechanic in business.
Every job starts with a command next to the customer's vehicle. The job runs on a timer. Stay with the vehicle until it finishes, because leaving duty, closing the firm or the vehicle disappearing cancels it.
| Command | What it does | Time |
|---|---|---|
| /mechanic bodywork | Repairs panels, doors, lights and tyres and restores health | Your job timer |
| /mechanic engine | Fully repairs engine health. Also rebuilds a worn or seized engine | Your job timer, or double for a rebuild |
| /mechanic oilchange | Changes the oil. The engine has to be off | Your job timer |
| /mechanic respray / interior | Sets the exterior or interior colour (0-255) | Your job timer |
| /mechanic paintjob / removepaintjob | Applies or strips a paintjob | Your job timer |
| /mtunestart | Performance tuning: pick a component type, then a component | Your job timer |
| /mechanic drainfuel | Drains a contaminated tank so it can be refilled | Always 60 seconds |
| /mechanic inspect | Shows engine health, odometer, miles since the oil change and wear | Instant |
Every car needs its oil changed every 100 miles. Once it is overdue the dash warns the driver every time they start the engine, and the engine wears faster the longer they leave it. A badly worn engine can seize with a loud bang and won't start again until a mechanic rebuilds it.
Putting the wrong fuel in a car has the same kind of consequence. A contaminated tank has to be drained with /mechanic drainfuel before it can be filled with the right fuel. It only works if the tank really is contaminated.
You gain a mechanic level as you complete jobs. Higher levels shorten your job timer, so an experienced mechanic gets through the queue faster. Your progress stays with your character, even if you change firms.
| Level | Jobs needed | Job timer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 60 seconds |
| 2 | 10 | 50 seconds |
| 3 | 25 | 40 seconds |
| 4 | 50 | 30 seconds |
| 5 | 100 | 20 seconds |
Check your own level with /mechanic or /mstats. Draining fuel always takes a full minute, whatever your level.
The game does not charge the customer for you. A mechanic agrees a price with the customer in roleplay and they pay you directly. Pay what you earn into the firm bank if your firm splits the takings, and use the bank for the crew's wages and supplies.
A firm starts with room for 10 members. The owner invites people with /firminvite and everyone works under one of four ranks. Each member also has permissions, and the owner can see who has what with /firmmembers.
| Rank | Title | Default permissions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Owner | Everything |
| 2 | Manager | Invite, kick, change ranks, use the bank, field tools and vehicles |
| 3 | Employee | Field tools only: the job commands in this guide |
| 4 | Trainee | Nothing. A trainee is on the roster but can't use the job tools yet |

Yes. You work on whichever vehicle is next to you, so you only need to be on duty.
You have to be on duty with /firmduty and be at least an Employee. Trainees have no field tools until they are promoted.
Leaving duty, the firm closing, using /mcancel, or the vehicle disappearing while you work.
